Carissa Ballard is a licensed cosmetologist, certified paramedical aesthetician, licensed massage therapist, certified medical massage therapist, intradermal cosmetic technician, reiki master. She has been serving the cosmetology field since 1993 and field of massage therapy since 1996. Although, her passion and knowledge started long beforehand. As a child she was always mixing and creating ‘potions’ to put on her brothers, or was creating a new hairstyle on her dolls. When a teenager, due to her mother’s influence, her interests turned to alternative health, herbal remedies, and nutrition. In the early 90’s, along side cosmetology school, Carissa trained extensively in the realms of skin care, make-up artistry and camouflage aesthetics. She also trained at the Scott & White Memorial Hospital Division of Plastic Surgery, Medical Aesthetics program. In the mid 90’s, post massage therapy school, Carissa worked with and assisted Dr. Jin, Chinese Acupuncture Doctor. Under his guidance she greatly expanded her knowledge on the body’s meridian systems and acupressure points. She also volunteered with The Look Good, Feel Great Program in Dallas, and worked with several Cancer and Burn survivors within the realm of clinical aesthetics and camouflage. Wanting to work more extensively in that area, she spent the next several years training in Manual Lymphatic Drainage. She has trained under experts from Spain, Germany, and France with well over 100 hours in MLD, making it one her specialties. In 1996 she was asked to demonstrate MLD and present it’s benefits to Doctors at an Alternative Cancer Clinic in Mexico. Carissa also is a Reiki practitioner and CranioSacrial therapist. She has developed her own method of combining the different modalities, often working on a cellular level. Over the years she taught beauty basics at a modeling school, and has trained many therapists in the Fredericksburg area in spa techniques. To this day, Carissa travels the country to the industry’s leading shows, seminars, and continuing education classes with the top experts of today, always expanding her and her staff’s knowledge. Her interests are also in metaphysics and the healing arts. She apprenticed with many shaman healers including one from Greenland who with the community of their circle, worked on a global movement of “Melting The Ice in the Heart of Man”. In 2015 she became a Mesa Carrier based on the Q’ero teachings in Peru after attending a year long journey with the Austin Shamanic Center.
In 1996 Carissa managed and helped create the first day spa in Fredericksburg. Just a few months after it’s spa program was launched, the spa was featured as one of the top day spas in the country by SELF magazine. In 1998, Carissa opened her own businesses. Spa to Go and European Day Spa of Fredericksburg. The pioneer of spa services in Fredericksburg, Carissa started the movement of spa services in the Bed and Breakfasts. Today several have on site mini spas. Many Fredericksburg therapists and nail technicians have worked and trained at European Day Spa, utilized Carissa’s techniques and product knowledge and have taken them into the community. Since it’s opening, European Day Spa has been featured several times in VOGUE including being listed in ‘The Best of Texas’ Nov.’02., featured in ELEGANT TEXAN – an exclusive magazine with only ‘The Best of The Best’, and featured in an article by SPAFINDER. Carissa has been quoted in SKIN, INC and DERMASCOPE. She has been named in WHO’S WHO IN BUSINESS EXECUTIVES,and was nominated for WOMAN OF THE YEAR,2004. European Day Spa has also appeared on San Antonio Living several times, and in 2017 was featured in an article “15 Best Girls’ Weekend Getaway Across America-And Where To Relax While You’re There” by FlipKey and featured as “Our Top Spot to Relax ” in Fredericksburg, TX.
The most important thing to Carissa for European Day Spa is to share her passion for the spa philosophy and utilize the body’s natural ability to heal.

The journey has evolved in many forms. The spa started out in a quaint two story Sunday House in 1999 which they quickly out grew and moved into a large two story house with a full service salon and side building that at one time hosted an acupuncturist and colonic therapist. Many years where then spent on the property of a small resort across from Enchanted Rock. Along the way, Carissa Ballard raised two children as a single mother and was honored to watch them thrive. In 2013 she moved to Austin to help a family member but instead of closing, she downsized her business and commuted several days a week back and forth in order to keep her amazing staff, still provide services to the many loyal clients of several years, and keep roots in the community.
